Relocation, last NYC shows

Little Gold will be relocating to Athens, GA as of March 1st. Things are changing! Also, this might be our last show in Brooklyn for a very long time. You should probably come.

pretty good year for records

These were my favorite records to be released in this year of our lord, 2011. As a man who listens to mostly old music, this list was pretty easy to compile as a lot of great records came out this year. Happy Holidays, etc. love, Smokey

1 White Fence “Is Growing Faith”
2 Peaking Lights “936″
3 Norm MacDonald “Me Doing Standup”
4 Radical Dads “Mega Rama”
5 Ben Von Wildenhaus “Great Melodies From Around”
6 Moon Duo “Mazes”
7 Zachary Cale “Noise of Welcome”
8 Kurt Vile “Smoke Ring For My Halo”
9 Bill Callahan “Apocalypse”
10 Comet Gain “Howl of the Lonely Crowd”

guest list, reviews, etc.

Recently, epitonic.com graciously asked Smokey to contribute a guest playlist to their vast and awesome library. If you’ve never checked out Epitonic, please take this opportunity to do so. It’s a killer site with a wealth of amazing independent music. Here’s Smokey’s List.

July 4, 2011

celebrating the nation’s independence with some cold ones and Tonight’s The Night. feelin’ pretty great! who knows, might make it all Neil, all day. a Canadian, so i guess there’s some irony there. hope yer all having a great holiday and keeping it safe. i broke my hand on the 4th several years back while running from a terrifying firework. this is no joke. keep it safe!

we’ll be playing the very first Bushwick Walkabout Saturday July 16th. Doors at 2pm, and we play on the early side of things at 4:30. this promises to be a great time with a bunch of great bands and food and drink and merriment, etc. The tickets are ridiculously cheap, especially if you purchase in advance, but there’s also a contest to “earn” a free pass to both days of the fest.

finally, here’s a look at the cover of the new record. coming 8/23 on Loud Baby Sounds, Weird Freedom will be available in LP (500 copies on sky blue vinyl), digital and CD formats.

xoxo
Smokey

Loud Baby

i guess now is as good a time as ever to introduce our new label, Loud Baby Sounds. Weird Freedom will be the label’s first release, followed by the new Ancient Sky LP, T.R.I.P.S., later this year. Weird Freedom will also be released in Europe by our friends Adagio 830.

Mike Swan is here / Weird Freedom is on the way

Ryan Davis is a dude who lives in Louisville, KY, but his zip code is in Indiana. He is a righteous dude, with a killer band, State Champion, and a killer label, Sophomore Lounge. Thanks to Ryan and Sophomore Lounge, we have this killer new 7″. Killer!

Mike Swan b/w Oh, Dad!

these are real swans. in austria.

The records are limited to 300 copies, and can be ordered from Sophomore Lounge. Academy Records in Brooklyn might have a few left. Or you could come to a Little Gold show and give the money right to us, much simpler that way.

And if that ain’t enough wax for ya, you might wanna take off yer britches cuz this next nugget of information (infonugget) is sure to make you soil the damn things anyway. Our new album, Weird Freedom, is finally done! The masters are on their way to the plant and the artwork is coming together nicely. We’ll be releasing it on our new label, Loud Baby Sounds, on or around August 9th. It’s the first Little Gold LP to feature our “Sick Hick” rhythm section of Brian Markham and Pat Broderick. It was recorded over the course of 2010 in more sessions than i can recall at our old friend Mark Ospovat’s Bushwick studio, Emandee. We spent a lot of time on it, and it’s like, really, really good.

humbly,
Smokey

p.s. check out our TOUR page for a few upcoming NYC dates. U.S. tour to come this fall, Europe next spring. xoxo.

shows, new 7″

hey gang, just a short update about some things we’re super-excited about. first: our new 7′ is available for pre-order via Sophomore Lounge Records
and we’ll be celebrating the release on 4/28 at The Delancey with our buds RADICAL DADS, BACKWORDS and BEN WILDENHAUS. this lineup is tremendous, and we couldn’t be more excited.

speaking of record release shows, we’ll be supporting another good friend, ZACHARY CALE, at his album release this Saturday 4/23 at Union Hall in Park Slope along with GANG VIOLETS. another stellar lineup.
